Bio – Kathleen WinfieldKathleen Winfield has been an avid horsewoman her entire life.  Driving has been the central focus for the past 16 years and continues to be a wonderful and rewarding experience.  Kathleen enjoys all aspects – teaching, competing and recreational driving.  Kathleen drives singles, pairs, has dabbled in tandem and is currently working on perfecting 4-in-hand driving. She drives everything from 16.1HH warmbloods to 34” miniature horses.   Her competitive driving includes success in Combined Driving Events, Driving Trials, Pleasure Shows, TREK driving, Battle of the Breeds at Spruce Meadows and Recreational Shows.  Other driving activities include recreational drives in the Foothills and Mountains and even some movie work.Kathleen's goal is to make a positive impact on the driving scene and promote recreational and competitive driving.  Her primary focus is to help folks get started safely in driving and go on to develop really solid, good driving skills that will help them pursue whatever facet of driving they choose.  Kathleen wants to help people to train their horses to be comfortable, safe, driving horses, enjoying what they are doing.  Her client base includes a wide variety of students ranging in age from 10 to 70, horses ranging from 34” very small equines right up to 16HH draft crosses.  Her teaching territory ranges from far up in northern Alberta to near the US border in southern Alberta.  She has also taught in British Columbia in the Dawson Creek area.  Kathleen has worked with horses in a variety of disciplines: back country wrangler, competitive trail riding, stock horse work, dressage and various recreational pursuits.  All of these equine experiences have taught Kathleen a great deal about being with horses – patience, perseverance, the rewards that come back to you if you put the time and energy into a project (and she doesn’t  mean financial!) and the companionship and positive relationship that is available with our equine friends.Kathleen has a driving center south of Calgary, Alberta.  Drivers and potential drivers and their equines big and small are welcome to come and learn to improve their skills.  She can be reached at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. Nettie Barr of Canadian Natural Horsemanship Inc, is a true asset in the Alberta Horse Industry. Her Clinics offer learning opportunities rarely seen. Canadian Natural Horsemanship Inc. has been developed to effectively reach the needs of equine enthusiasts. Its goals are to reach all levels of horsemen/horsewomen to develop safer, affordable, informative, step by step user friendly techniques that apply for all disciplines of horsemanship.

The first Stage of the program, Round Penning and On line Ground Work, is the stage where the handler learns how to build respect, trust, communication and a lasting relationship with the horse. The second stage, Introduction to Riding, takes the concepts of the first stage and transfers this information under saddle. These principles learned in the previous clinics are then refined between horse and handler in the advanced clinics.

Nettie Barr's personal approach takes into consideration the confidence and dignity of both horse and handler, creating a relaxed and positive atmosphere for learning.  Setting people up for success with lasting results has been the focal point and strength of her approach.  Annette Bos of Calgary Regional Trail Riders says,  "Nettie has an excellent rapport with her participants and auditors alike and has the skill to draw in her audience making them feel as much a part of the learning as the participant.  She makes asking a question easy - every question is a good question in her eyes, and every question is addressed.  Nettie has the power of motivation and makes participants and auditors alike feel that the skills she teaches are not beyond anyone's reach - everyone can attain them with practice.  Nettie is committed to her learning process and safety standards and does not compromise them.  I was extremely impressed as an auditor, and I am thrilled to be signed up for the round pen and ground work clinic in June"

Her dedication to teaching horsemanship is second to none.  With four FULL days of instruction, support after the clinic ends, and free auditing available, Nettie is clearly committed to the art of teaching true communication between horse and handler.  Once people witness Nettie's gift for teaching, upcoming clinics fill quickly.  She only allows six participants in each, so everyone has her one on one attention, and always leaves safer, and armed with more knowledge & confidence.

Her program is based on safety, clear communication and building a lifelong partnership with your horse.

I am honored that she has agreed to expand her clinic schedule to Southern Alberta.  I will be hosting clinics in Round penning, On Line Ground Work, Trailer Loading and Riding in June, August and September 2009.
